چکیده
Binomial Test Example: Instances of sevens as digits from a random digit generator Step 1: Formulate hypotheses. H0 : π = 1 10 , Ha : π 6= 1 10 Step 2: Obtain a test statistic. In this case, I indicated a sample of 200 random digits yielded 35 sevens. Step 3: Calculate the P -value. The P -value is the conditional probability of obtaining a test statistic at least as extreme as ours given that the null hypothesis is true. It may be helpful to view the null distribution X ∼ Binom(200, 1/10), which is the pmf for X under the null hypothesis. plotDist("binom", params=c(200,1/10))

Non-Inferiority Tests for One Proportion
Approximate sample size formulas for non-inferiority tests of a single proportion are presented in Chow et al. (2008) page 85. However, only large sample (normal approximation) results are given there. This procedure has the capability for computing power using both the normal approximation and binomial enumeration for all tests. Some sample size programs use only the normal approximation to th...
متن کاملPower Comparison of Exact Unconditional Tests for Comparing Two Binomial Proportions
The powers of six exact, unconditional tests for comparing two binomial proportions are studied. Total sample sizes range from 20 to 100 with balanced and imbalanced designs included. Some previously proposed tests are found to have poor power for imbalanced designs. Two new tests, confidence interval modifications of Boschloo’s and Suissa and Shuster’s tests, are found to have the best powers....
متن کاملModerated statistical tests for assessing differences in tag abundance
MOTIVATION Digital gene expression (DGE) technologies measure gene expression by counting sequence tags. They are sensitive technologies for measuring gene expression on a genomic scale, without the need for prior knowledge of the genome sequence. As the cost of sequencing DNA decreases, the number of DGE datasets is expected to grow dramatically. Various tests of differential expression have b...
متن کاملSpeech-discrimination scores modeled as a binomial variable.
Many studies have reported variability data for tests of speech discrimination, and the disparate results of these studies have not been given a simple explanation. Arguments over the relative merits of 25- vs 50-word tests have ignored the basic mathematical properties inherent in the use of percentage scores. The present study models performance on clinical tests of speech discrimination as a...
متن کاملSmall-sample estimation of negative binomial dispersion, with applications to SAGE data.
We derive a quantile-adjusted conditional maximum likelihood estimator for the dispersion parameter of the negative binomial distribution and compare its performance, in terms of bias, to various other methods. Our estimation scheme outperforms all other methods in very small samples, typical of those from serial analysis of gene expression studies, the motivating data for this study. The impac...
متن کاملStatistical methods for the beta-binomial model in teratology.
The beta-binomial model is widely used for analyzing teratological data involving littermates. Recent developments in statistical analyses of teratological data are briefly reviewed with emphasis on the model. For statistical inference of the parameters in the beta-binomial distribution, separation of the likelihood introduces an likelihood inference. This leads to reducing biases of estimators...
